Activities

Something for everyone…

From horse riding, birdwatching and golf to skiing or yoga – there are plenty of activities to enjoy.

Walking and hiking

The foothills of the Sierra Nevada are magical to walk and you can follow the famous GR7 and GR142 paths – with, or without, a professional guide.

Walk through shady pine forests and enjoy a picnic by the Rio Chico – it’s a photographer’s paradise too.

More about guided and self-guided walking breaks.

Golf

There are three courses all within an hour’s drive. The nearest, on the coast near Salobreña, is around 35 minutes away and has amazing views.

They each have an 18-hole course and a bar/restaurant – perfect for a day out.

Horse riding

Whether you’re a novice or an experienced rider, the ideal horse is waiting for you.

You can hire a horse – and guide – for just a couple of hours or longer. Enjoy the spectacular views to the Mediterranean.

Cycling

Cycling is very popular in La Alpujarra and there are some great, and sometimes tough, routes from the house.

We´ve teamed up with a professional cycling company who hire bikes (delivered to the house) and organise rides.

Get wet at a water park

There are two water parks near Almond Hill House – one, in Almuñecar, is 45 minutes by car and the other an hour.

A great day out which can be tied-in with a trip to the beach for more watery fun.

Arab baths

Relax in beautiful Arab baths in Granada and journey from hot to cold to warm baths.

Finish with a massage accompanied with natural, jasmine-scented oil to feel calm and rejuvinated.

Sea kayaking, diving and snorkelling

Head for the gorgeous Costa Tropical and make the most of all it offers.

There are several places around Salobreña, Almuñecar and La Herradura where equipment can be hired and lessons booked.

Visit a winery

There are some delicious wines made in the region and visits to vineyards can be arranged.

The Contraviesa is the place to head for to learn about – and of course taste – a variety of wines.

Almond picking

There’s nothing more fulfilling than harvesting the almond crop from the trees – at Almond Hill House!

Enjoy the liberating experience of whacking branches with sticks followed by crushing them – yours to keep of course.

Rock climbing and mountaineering

Join up with experienced, local guides who know the best places to trek and climb.

Spain’s highest mountain (Mulhacen) or another of your choice, you’re guaranteed a thrilling day out.

Skiing and snowshoeing

At the right time of year you can both ski and snowshoe within an hour of Almond Hill House – with or without a guide.

Or drive to the Sierra Nevada ski station – the season is from around late November to early May.

Note: We can give you contact details of activity providers. Activities are subject to availability and time of year (eg skiing and visiting a water park).
